August 2, 2015 - Fort William to Gairlochy

Today's stats: 11.9 miles, 357' elevation gain, 293' elevation loss

Only a few drops of rain today and no raincoats but was rather cool with temperatures in the high 40s and low 50s.

This was by far the easiest 11.9 miles that we have hiked to date. Some of the day we were on road, some trail (virtually no rocks), and mostly on a wide track of finely crushed, packed rock which was the tow path for the Caledonian Canal which connects Loch Lochy with Loch Linnhe. The canal is approx. 6 miles long and operates with ten locks.

There is a series of eight locks named Neptune Locks that raise or lower boats 64'. We stopped and watched the locks operate for awhile.

We arrived at the B&B just after 3:00 and beat our luggage by 30 minutes. We have dinner reservations at a restaurant in the old train station which is a 20 minute walk from here.
