We were up about 7:00 and had our Starbucks Via and oatmeal John purchased last night. The sky was perfectly clear and we watched the sunrise from the front window. We left just before 9:00 for the 25 mile ride to Lake Ohau Lodge.
The first 12 miles or so was on a very lightly travelled chip sealed road that mostly followed the Ohau Canal. Once we reached the lake we travelled on a great gravel single track trail that was lakeside for about 7 miles. There was no one on the track and no boats on the lake. It was unbelievably peaceful.
We were then back on nearly flat chip sealed road until reaching the lodge. We arrived around 12:30 and were able to get into our room. John needed a little more exercise so he road up some very bad road to a nearby ski area. He did not see another person.
