July 15, 2015 - A very full travel day

Today we left Leenaun and travelled to Sligo. On the way we stopped at the Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetary a burial site dating back to 2,500-3,000 BC.

We then dropped off our luggage at the Park House B&B. On our way to hike to the summit of Balben we stopped at the gravesite of William Butler Yeats arguably Ireland's most famous poet.

Then it was a short drive to the, trailhead for Mt. Balben. We hiked to the summit and the spent a couple of hours exploring the area. 5.8 miles and 2,280' of elevation gain.

Dinner was prearranged by the tour company at the Yeats Experience. This a at a private home overlooking a lake and surrounding mountains. Damien Brennan and his wife Paula Gilvarry are not only great cooks but are Yeats scholars. Lectures on Yeats and poetry reading were interspersed with a multiple course dinner. It was fantastic evening.

It's after 11:00 so it's goodnight.
