July 12, 2015 - Leenaun, Ireland - Hike along the Killary Fjord

Finally a day of hiking. We had breakfast at 8:00 and I might add they don't open the doors one second earlier. Breakfast is buffet style with fruits, yogurts, cereals, various juices, sausage, bacon, potatoes, eggs, toast, coffee and of course tea. We left the hotel at 9:15 for a short drive to the trailhead which begins at a sheep farm. The hike was a lollipop loop with the first two miles being the out and back portion. The first two miles paralleled the fjord about fifty feet in elevation above the water. There were many mussel farms in the fjord. We then headed in a clockwise direction uphill to a draw between two small peaks and away from the fjord. At the top of the draw we had a good view of the entrance of the fjord, several small islands and the Atlantic Ocean. We then went downhill to a small fishing village at the southern entrance of the fjord where we had lunch. From there we followed the shoreline back to the car. Hike statistics: 8.3 miles and 779' of elevation gain.

  1. You had me at "breakfast buffet." Sounds like a good first day of hiking and it looks like you got a little bit of blue sky at lunch. Captions and spot updated. Love you.
